Tribeca
Neighborhood is bounded by Canal and Barclay Streets to the north and south respectively, and by the Hudson River and the Broadway to the east and west respectively. The name of the neighborhood, Tribeca actually stands for TRIangle BElow Canal. It is often defined as very dynamic area, full of unique collection of shops, restaurants, art galleries and luxury high-rise buildings. There are Robert Deniro’s film studio and restaurants located in this neighborhood together with vast designer lofts, as a consequence celebrities are seen frequently on these streets, which gives Tribeca a certain chic atmosphere. Neighborhood is located near New York City’s Financial District which adds convenience to the eclectic mixes of commercial and residential properties in this area.
Back in ‘70s, when prices were low and the Hudson River views affordable, this place was abundant. Many poor artists chose this neighborhood as their place of living, they invested some sweat equity to install kitchens and bathrooms in raw warehouses. In the mid ‘80s neighborhood began to gain its popularity, it appeared on maps, and property values rose as celebrities, developers, and professionals recognized the advantage of vast apartments near Wall Street or midtown.
The area is full of Greek coffee shops, appliance stores and mom-and-pop shops, which remain unchanged since 1930’s. Tribeca is known as a safe neighborhood, with excellent schools, not to mention that it is 10-15 minutes from midtown Manhattan. |
